Still Life Studies
Still Life Studies
DATE Sunday July 1st
We are so thrilled to be hosting Still Life Studies with Caroline Walls. This experience will bring together the knowledge and expertise of Melbourne's Caroline Walls in collaboration with stylist Stephanie Stamatis. The class will be practical focused including practices such as blind, continuous line and still life drawing.
Everyone will leave with an understanding of line drawing practice, a change to give it a go and some very generous gifts. We will be hosting the event in our Northcote warehouse, including a beautiful grazing table of fine cheeses and wine.
Caroline Walls (b. 1984) is an Australian artist working across a number of media, including painting, drawing, soft sculpture, and print-making. Walls creates work with a skilled and fluid approach to aesthetics, focusing on the female form as her central subject. She graduated with a First-class Honours degree in Visual Communication and Design from Swinburne University (2006) and recently attended the Victorian College of the Arts where she completed a post-graduate certificate in Visual Arts.
Caroline lives and works in Melbourne, Australia after spending extensive time abroad living in both London and NYC. Walls worked as a designer and art director for fashion and luxury lifestyle brands for 10 years before moving into art-making full-time. Caroline has had 3 solo exhibitions of here work, with the most recent two in 2017 selling out. She looks forward to presenting her fourth solo exhibition in 2018.
"With a foundation in design my artistic practice is grounded in a strong sense of colour play, line and form. I am inspired by everyday human experiences and the fluidity and movement of the human body. These artworks explore the female body and the reduction of its form as a way of heightening its expressive power."
Stephanie Stamatis is the face behind Stephanie Somebody, a stylist and creative director as well as one half of events management and design team Local Gatherings. Beginning her design journey as an interior designer, Stephanie's search for beauty has lead her to a more personal form of story telling.
It could be the lovingly curated collections of knick-knacks on her grandmothers bedside table, the crystal bowls and burgundy velvet curtains or her dad's paint shed shelves overflowing with Primavera Beige, Champagne Gold and Carousel Red that that is behind Stephanie's layered aesthetic and love of objet.
Drawing inspiration from nostalgia and in the search for perfect imperfection, Stephanie lends her signature aesthetic to a variety of editorial and advertising clients working with brands such as Country Road, Kinfolk, Myer, The Guardian, Penguin Publishing and Women's Weekly and has appeared in publications locally and abroad such as Broadsheet Melbourne Food Guide, Real Living Magazine, House and Garden, Yen Magazine and Provincial Magazine.
